Special Interest:  Mile End Road is an important east-west linear artery to Essex, locally linking Bow with Stepney and GreenBridge, which carries MileEndPark over the road. The subject site is surrounded by a number of conservation areas, each varying in character and special interest. One of the more important conservation areas, Tredegar Square Conservation Area, is an area of particular historic importance. The terraced façades are a central focus which gives a distinct and memorable character to the views within the square.

Scope of Professional Services:
Heritage Architecture Ltd were commissioned to undertake the following:

  • HISTORIC CONTEXT APPRAISAL: Heritage Architecture Ltd undertook research to assess the development of the site and its historic context, which included the preparation of a map sequence and a ground level appraisal of the contextual relationship of a number of buildings and vistas within the immediate environs of the proposed development.
  • VIEW DETERMINATION: Heritage Architecture Ltd assisted with the identification of key viewpoints that included the setting of listed buildings and conservation areas.
  • VISUAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT: Heritage Architecture Ltd carried out a visual impact assessment of the proposed development in relation to other landmark listed buildings and the character and appearance of the surrounding conservation areas. The assessment included consideration of mitigation measures for substantial adverse effects and residual and cumulative/interactive impacts, using verified baseline and fully-rendered CGI views provided by others.
