Special Interest: Once a prosperous cotton town in the early to mid 19th century this area of Preston experienced decline in the post war years. The buildings under evaluation are identified as being integral with Preston’s industrial past and have contributed to the emergence of Preston as a leading town in textile production which in turn was beneficial to the Country’s industrial revolution.
Scope of Professional Services:
Heritage Architecture Ltd. were commissioned to undertake the following:
- HISTORICAL APPRAISAL OF THE BUILDINGS: Heritage Architecture Ltd undertook historic research and compiled background information regarding the buildings located at 131A & 133 Church Street and 21-23 Lord Street; and carried out an appraisal of significance in accordance with the Communities and Local Government Circular 01/2007, Revisions to Principles of Selection for Listing Buildings.
- APPRAISAL OF INTEGRITY: Heritage Architecture Ltd carried out an Appraisal of Integrity on the properties located at 131a and 133 Church Street and 21-23 Lord Street, which included an assessment of the effect of previous alterations to the form and fabric of the buildings.
- HISTORIC CONTEXT APPRAISAL: Heritage Architecture Ltd. appraised the historic development of the properties located at 29-31 Church Street, including the preparation of map sequences of earlier built form. A ground level appraisal of the contextual relationship of the buildings and vistas informed salient points of design criteria.
- ASSESSMENT OF IMPACT ON TOWNSCAPE: Heritage Architecture Ltd were commissioned to undertake a desktop assessment of the potential visual impact of the proposed development on the settings of 29, 30 and 31 Church Street with commentary on potential or actual effects, mitigation measures, residual impact and cumulative/ interactive effects likely to result.
