Special Interest: Trafford Town Hall is an example of municipal interwar architecture, using Art Deco as its main style. The building was completed in 1933 but earlier history of the site and its development is important in understanding the cultural context. Designed by Bradshaw Gass & Hope architects, the building has served the needs of Stretford and Trafford Councils since its opening in 1933.

Scope of Professional Services:
            Heirtage Architecture Ltd were commissioned to undertake the following:

  • SCHEDULE OF SIGNIFICANCE: Heritage Architecture Ltd undertook site inspections, which included room-by-room surveys to identify significant features of the Town Hall in order to compile a Schedule of Significance. HA identified particular form and features that required conservation and documented alterations and extensions to the building since 1933.
  • APPRAISAL OF ELIGIBILITY FOR LISTING: Using the information obtained from the Schedules of Significance, Heritage Architecture Ltd carried out an appraisal to ascertain whether Trafford Town Hall satisfied the statutory listing criteria. The appraisal took into consideration the building as a whole, its significant architectural elements, and its urban setting. This was undertaken to establish the buildings’ special interest, having regard to any historical associations, architectural merit and contextual interest.
